Weight Loss Surgery Health Fair a Great Success!

khaliahOn April 29, Ehrlich Bariatrics and Griffin Hospital in Connecticut held their first Weight Loss Surgery Health Fair. The event was well attended at over 150 patients, and provided a great opportunity for pre and post-op patient alike to network and gain support and inspiration.

Heath Fair Details

Keynote speaker Khaliah Ali, daughter of famous boxer Muhammad Ali, spoke of life before and after LAP-BAND surgery. This down-to-earth star provided inspiration and spoke about her passion in the fight against adolescent obesity.

Various industry vendors were present to support and educate patients in their journey toward success:

  • Allergan, that manufacturer of the LAP-BAND System showcased all of their new features available to patients on lapband.com
  • Bariatric Advantage provided information about their product line and many free samples of their products scientifically researched specifically for the needs of the bariatric surgery patient
  • Covidien provided education to patients via animated videos of the various weight loss surgery procedures, as well as tools to stay successful
  • WLS Lifestyle magazine donated a copy of their magazine to each attendee, as well as several year subscriptions to be raffled off
  • Griffin Hospital showcased all of their support for the bariatric patient, to include: nutrition counseling, support groups and psychological counseling, radiology imaging in their new bariatric-friendly imaging center, Ivy Book, as well as a Wii Fit demonstration by the staff implementing an exercise program for pre and post-op patients.

The event also had a raffle of many prizes geared toward the overall health and well-being of the weight loss surgery patient. Some of the prizes included: Wii Fit Systems, gym memberships, iPods, gift certificates for yoga, pilates, and personal training, as well as gift certificates for Botox.
