Nancy Shares Her Weight Loss Success

With a husband, two children, one 125-lb yellow lab, some great friends and a part-time insurance-agent job, Nancy has always had a full life. But such ‘fullness’ can leave little time to take care of that subtle weight gain that mounts up, year to year. Then, sooner or later, reality hits: What used to be a minor 10- or 15-pound annoyance becomes a dangerously high number with nothing subtle about it.

Nancy’s Story

nancytalbot_before“After I had my kids, I just couldn’t get the weight off,” says this Groton, Conn., resident. “I tried fad diets, went through all that yo-yo dieting. I was very concerned about my health. Then one day I saw an ad for the weight loss seminar in Connecticut that Dr. Ehrlich’s group was running, and I just decided to go.” Once there, she was impressed with the open and honest information sharing in the seminar. “Even afterward, Kevin (Bessette, Practice Manager at Ehrlich Bariatrics) was always sure to email answers to my every question,” she says.

About a month and a half before her gastric bypass, Nancy’s aunt had been in a study that examined the impact of the surgery on diabetes. “So we kind of went through the program together,” she explains. Such studies are proving the substantial benefits of weight loss surgery, which, in many patients, appears to eliminate diabetes 2 altogether.

nancytalbot_250x188As for Nancy, she’s delighted with her weight loss of 91 lbs since her December 2008 surgery. It’s second nature to eat far less than before, she says. “Instead of a quarter of the chocolate cake, I’m happy with a couple of bites. I never want to go back to where I was!” Still, she’s a little in awe of how well the program worked, recalling how “Everything from start to finish was positive. My insurance covered it, Dr. Ehrlich and the staff have been so helpful, and I’ve had no medical issues or problems like getting sick. My husband was so impressed, he’s having his own surgery done next week!”nancytalbot_after

That full life of hers? Seems it’s even fuller now. “I feel better. I look better. And I have so much more confidence with the kids,” she concludes. “I’ve actually gone roller-skating with them!” Friends are thrilled for her, some even inspired to tackle their own weight situations. “These days we get together to spend time together,” Nancy says, “not to pig out!”
