This year marked the first gala, entitled True Love Doesn’t Weight, benefiting the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC)! The show was featured on Friday, June 7th 2013 at Vazzano’s Four Seasons in Stratford, CT. We plan to make this event an annual fundraiser. All proceeds of this event went to the OAC. The OAC is the only non-profit organization whose sole focus is representing individuals affected by obesity. Today, more than 93 million Americans are affected by obesity, many of whom are children and adolescents. The Obesity Action Coalition feels it is imperative to raise awareness of the disease of obesity, ensure access to safe and effective treatment options, and eradicate the negative bias and stigma associated with it. Ehrlich Bariatrics felt that this was the perfect opportunity to give back to our patients, the community, and most notably, the organization that has provided a great deal of support to the obesity cause.
“Great American Love Songs” by the Park City Players, along with a healthy-choice menu designed by Chef John Lepper, provided the backdrop for the gala while raising awareness of the plight of childhood and adolescent obesity.
The support from patients, friends, and family was phenomenal! There was a full house that night, as approximately 200 people attended. After Nancy Lessard and Dr. Timothy Ehrlich welcomed the guests, comedian Lisa Lampanelli took the stage!
Lisa Lampanelli, who had the Sleeve Gastrectomy about a year ago, attended as a special guest to support the cause. Lisa Lampanelli has lost over 100 lbs. and is a true role model and inspiration. Lisa captivated the audience with her hilarious, uncensored comedy! Click here to see our video of the event, featuring Lisa Lampanelli, on Ehrlich Bariatrics YouTube channel.
The Park City Players were amazing! The talent for this show combined the creativity of co-founders Nancy Lessard and Scott Sisbarro, with a fabulous cast of high school and college theater student in a Cabaret-style presentation of some of the best love songs of all times. From traditional ballads to upbeat pop tunes, from rockers to crooners, this high energy show included songs and dances that provided great entertainment for all ages. Becky, Ehrlich Bariatrics Physician Assistant, was even serenaded on stage!
The photos from the event, taken by A Joyous Moment Photography, are in the True Love Doesn’t Weight photo album on Ehrlich Bariatrics Facebook page. Ehrlich Bariatrics would like to thank Lisa Lampanelli, the Park City Players, The Obesity Action Coalition, Patients, Friends, Families, and Corporate Sponsors whom supported our event.
