Empowering Healthy Living: Exercise Programs Now Being Offered at Griffin Hospital
Griffin Bariatrics now offers exercise programs on Mondays and Thursdays from 11:00am to noon at its Connecticut facility. You will have the opportunity to participate in a medically supervised exercise program where your blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation are all monitored. Fitness testing is also available and exercise guidelines are developed based on those results. You will exercise with other patients that have had similar surgeries, such as LAP-BAND surgery or gastric bypass.
At your first exercise session, you will have a series of tests to help determine your baseline for exercise. This also provides information to help establish goals and measures your progress as you continue in the program.
The groups are as follows:
- A New University, a New “U”
- “Masters Program” – Maintenance!
- “GSA” – Get Started Again
A New University, A New “U”
This exercise group is for patients who have recently had bariatric surgery in Connecticut and need to get started exercising. The gym will be dedicated to those patients who have had weight loss surgery or are considering weight loss surgery and would like to start exercising in preparation. The program meets Mondays and Thursdays from 11:00am to noon. The exercise portion is about 45 minutes (or as tolerated). One day a week there is an informational session held in a classroom setting to learn about exercise principles, nutrition, stress reduction, and helpful tips on weight loss.
“Masters Program”- Maintenance!
This program is designed for patients that had bariatric surgery in the past, have lost weight, and wish to maintain their weight loss.
“GSA”- Get started again!
This program is for those that had weight loss surgery in the past, and may need a boost to get on track. If you find you’ve gained or are gaining some of your weight back, this program is ideal.
